The Top Tips for Finding the Most Romantic Foods to Cook

If your other half is a foodie, the way to their heart is probably through their stomach! Whether you enjoy cooking together in the kitchen or just eating delicious cuisine, food brings us closer together. It doesn’t matter if it’s an anniversary, Valentine’s Day, or any regular day; food can set the scene for romance. Let these ideas for romantic foods to cook point you in the right direction!

The Top Tips for Finding the Most Romantic Foods to Cook

Hearts, Hearts, and more Hearts

heart cookiesYou would be surprised at how many foods can be made in the shape of a heart! All you need is a little creativity. One of my personal favorites is pizza. You can either try to put the dough itself into the shape of a heart or you can arrange your toppings in the heart shape. Pepperoni and veggies are great for that! Other foods that are easy to shape are pancakes, sugar cookies, and basically anything that you can alter the shape of while still keeping it delicious.

Red–The Color of Romance

When we think of the color of romance, we automatically think of the color red. Why not give your romantic foods to cook the color too? Start off with a classic red food: Red Velvet Cake. With the delicious cream cheese frosting, rich red color, and amazing flavor, this cake screams romance. You can even make smaller cupcakes instead! When attempting for romantic foods, food coloring is your friend. You can even use red dye in your pancakes and make them into a heart shape for a double whammy!

Keep it Easy

While you might want to go all out and cook an extravagant meal for your loved one, spaghetti
sometimes putting time and effort into something delicious is best. One of my favorite date night meals is spaghetti with homemade sauce. A good sauce has to simmer for hours, so your sweetheart will know you put in time and effort. Plus it will taste great! Crack open a bottle of wine and replay the spaghetti scene from Disney’s classic Lady and the Tramp.

Set the Mood

Whatever romantic foods to cook you choose for your sweetheart, they are sure to appreciate it. Set the mood to make your meal truly special. A few candles can go a long way! Imagine getting home to the table set, candles lit, and soft music playing. I know I’d be happy, even if all I was getting is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich!

3 of the Best Non Traditional Turkey Recipes

Turkey is such a versatile bird to cook. There’s so much you can do with it! Turkeys don’t offer much flavor on their own, so it’s up to you to make the flavor happen. You can do this by rubbing the bird with a variety of spices, stuffing it, brining it, basting it, and more. We’ve chosen some non traditional turkey recipes from the Forq app to get your creative juices flowing! Don’t be shy; something new this holiday season with your turkey.

The Forq app is filled with tons of non traditional turkey recipes. Scroll through to find some, or add your own!

3 of the Best Non Traditional Turkey Recipes

1. Good Eats Roast Turkey

This Good Eats Roast Turkey will not disappoint! This recipe will give you steps and ingredients to brine the turkey before the big day. Brining can make a bird taste amazing and keep in moisture. However, taking a bird in and out of a 5 gallon bucket can be difficult, so this recipe may not be for everyone. But at least you know it will be very well-seasoned!

2. Smoked Turkey

The only special ingredient you’ll need for this Smoked Turkey is the right tool: a smoker. Smoking a turkey is arguably the easiest way to give your bird delicious flavor. Rub on the spices, then leave it in the smoker and let it do its thing! You should only have to check on it a few times, freeing you up to focus on other aspects of your dinner.

3. Evil Turkey

Don’t let the name fool you, the taste of this turkey is heavenly! This is one of the non traditional turkey recipes that is bursting with unique flavor. Evil Turkey takes in all the flavors from the pepper rub to create something like you have never tasted before. If you’re looking for something non-traditional, this is it!

Turkey Roasting Tips

  • Make sure to get your turkey in advance! You don’t want to be left without a bird. If you’re looking to buy from somewhere other than the grocery store, make sure to order it weeks in advance.
  • Don’t get left with an unthawed bird! Give yourself enough time to defrost your turkey. Do it in the fridge and allow 1 day per 4 pounds of bird.
  • Make sure you have everything you need for the meal, including a thermometer to check the turkey.
  • If you’re cooking a large bird, make sure it’ll fit in your pan. It may seem silly, but it’s happened before!

6 of the Most Comforting Southern Side Dishes

1. Slow Cooker Mac n Cheese

Mac n cheese is a Southern staple. It can be a whole meal, or use it as a delicious side. A combination of both cheese and pasta creates the ultimate comfort food, and might be my favorite out of all the Southern side dishes! This particular recipe uses a slow cooker, so it’s super easy to make.

mfp_8744d2ee357c6c09dc6bc5b8f4106118DSC_05042. Sweet Corn Pudding

This particular side dish goes well with whatever meal you’re making! It’s a little sweet but has amazing corn flavor. I’d describe Sweet Corn Pudding as similar to cornbread, but it might even be better! It’s the perfect treat to go along with your dinner.

3. Fresh Summer Squash Casserole

Many think of summer squash solely as a summer vegetable, but I love eating it whenever I get my hands on it! This Fresh Summer Squash Casserole is the perfect dish for any day of the week. Eat it with your summer BBQ, or use it as a side during Thanksgiving!

4. Hush Puppies

Hush Puppies are at the epitome of Southern side dishes. There’s something about deep frying a corn-based dough ball that delights everyone’s tastebuds. They’re like reimagined cornbread, and I can’t get enough! Every time I have one, it brings me back to charming Charleston, South Carolina, where they give free samples out on the street!

5. Green Beans with Caramelized Shallots

There are always greens in Southern side dishes, and I can’t get enough of these Green Beans with Caramelized Shallots! I enjoy green beans simply with butter, salt, and pepper, but the caramelized shallots in this recipe brings them to a whole other level. The sweetness of the caramelization plays off the green bean flavor perfectly!

We Know Some of the Best Homemade Pizza Recipes

Let’s face it– pizza is a staple in our lives. We love taking that first bite and seeing how long we can get the gooey cheese to pull. Crust, sauce, and cheese seem to be the perfect combo! With pizza shops around every corner, this tasty treat is readily available. However, there’s something extra special about indulging in a pizza fresh out of your own oven, made just the way you like it. You can even get the kids involved! A lot of the best homemade pizza recipes are generally easy. You can buy dough at the store or even sometimes at your local pizza shop, or make your own. From there, just get your desired toppings!

The Forq app is filled with tons of the best homemade pizza recipes! Scroll through to find some, or add your own!

Start with the Dough

Arguably, the most important thing about pizza is the dough. I have pre-bought dough at the grocery store before, but if I don’t have time to make it homemade, I prefer going to my favorite pizza restaurant to buy it. In my experience, it is super cost effective! However, the best homemade pizza recipes start with homemade dough. For classic pizza, try this No-Rise Pizza Dough. Sometimes I even use a Cauliflower Pizza Base. Using a base like cauliflower is an awesome healthy alternative, but just because dough is a carb doesn’t automatically make your pizza unhealthy. Your body needs carbohydrates for energy, so it’s moreso the toppings you choose to add that decide how healthy your pizza is!

Choose Your Sauce

piYes that’s right, choose your sauce! Don’t get bogged down with the idea that the only sauce that belongs on pizza is red. Try any sauce you want, or even no sauce at all! Switch things up with something like this Tomato and Pesto Pizza. Or, one of my personal favorites is to take leftover alfredo sauce, add some more cheese, chicken, and broccoli. Yum!

Add the Toppings

The best homemade pizza recipes start with the dough, and end with the the best homemade pizza recipestoppings! I love being creative with my pizzas, although I do appreciate a good cheese pizza. Personally, I prefer slicing up fresh mozzarella for my cheese, then building my pizza from there. I usually add fresh basil and other veggies I find in my fridge. Get creative! If you need a little inspiration, here are a few of the best homemade pizza recipes on the Forq app:
