Parmigiano-Reggiano and Pecorino Romano

Both of these cheeses are dense and perfect for grating. It’s found most in Italian dishes and how to use cheese in cookingthe perfect addition to pasta sauces. Or, you can make an entirely Parmesan-based sauce like Alfredo! You probably know Parmigiano-Reggiano as Parmesan. We recommend getting the fresh stuff– not the kind you find in the shaker. You’ll love its incredible, nutty flavor. Both are very similar, but Pecorino Romano has a bit more of an intense, saltier flavor.

Cheddar

Cheddar is an incredibly popular cheese You can use this cheese in pretty much anything. Sprinkle it on top of a casserole, use it in an omelet, or top a burger with it. A young cheddar cheese will be very mild in flavor. As the cheese matures, it gets sharper and more complex.

how to cook with cheeseSwiss

Swiss cheese is a very mild cheese with a sweet, nutty flavor. It’s best known by the tiny air pockets that make its holes. The larger the holes in the cheese, the more flavor it will have. You’ll usually find Swiss cheese on sandwiches and paninis. It’s even better when it melts, like on these Ham and Swiss Sliders!

Provolone

Provolone is considered similar to Swiss cheese because of its mild flavor. This soft cheese’s flavor profile is buttery and a bit tangy. It is a “pulled curd cheese,” meaning when provolone is made, the curds are formed into a wheel, brined, then aged. Forq tip: all pulled curd cheeses get an even more intense flavor when they’re melted!

Gouda

Gouda has a delicious, sweet, nutty, buttery, and unique flavor. It’s one of the most popular cheeses in the world, most likely because of its versatility. I love it on a burger! Like most cheeses, as it gets older, it gets a sharper and stronger flavor. Fun fact: Gouda is pronounced “How-da” by the Dutch where it originated!

Mozzerella

There’s nothing like fresh mozzarella. Next time you make a pizza, get the fresh stuff. Slice itmargherita-pizza-993274_960_720 up and let it spread out over the sauce in the oven. Unlike many other cheeses, mozzarella is not aged. But, it doesn’t need to be! The flavor it gets just from the milk make it perfect for things like pizzas. It’s a curd cheese just like provolone, so the flavor gets even better when it’s heated!

Havarti

It’s a party with Havarti! This cheese is rich and creamy and makes anything you put it on absolutely delectable. Like most cheeses, its sharpness depends on how long it has been aged, but it is always buttery and sweet. It’s a great addition to a dish like Homemade Mac and Cheese. When I make it, I love mixing other cheeses in!

Brie

When I want to impress guests, I bring out the brie. This cheese is so beautifully soft and tasty– no wonder it has been nicknamed “Queen of Cheeses!” It is both fruity and nutty, and it pairs great with other salty and sweet flavors. Make a grilled cheese out of it with some jam, bake it in phyllo dough with preserves on top, or start out with something easy like these 3-ingredient Mini Brie Bites.

Feta

Depending on what brand and type you buy, feta cheese can range from mild to robust. It is made from either sheep’s milk, goat’s milk, or a mixture of both. The flavor is salty and tangy and can either be soft or crumbly and dry. It gives your dishes a perfect tang, like this Tomato, Avocado, Cucumber, Chick Pea, and Feta Salad.
